National Geographic Recreate Pixar's Up

I know I haven't updated for well over a week which is quite bad of me and so I have missed out on blogging a few things.

One of which is this real-life version of Pixar's animated hit film 'Up' from National Geographic.

It took a team of scientists, engineers, world-class balloon pilots and 300 balloons to launch the 18 foot high house and set a new world record for the largest balloon cluster flight ever attempted.

So anything is possible if you know the right people!

Andrew Capener - Typographic Scrabble Set

Despite it only being in the planning stages (and it also only being March) A-1 -this beautifully redesigned scrabble set has already made my Christmas wish list.

The set designed by BYU graduate Andrew Capener comes in a light birch box, with six walnut playing pieces and each letter tile printed with a unique font.

The perfect present for typography fans. I love it, why didn't I think of it?

The External World From David OReilly - Animation Short Film

I feel like I have been waiting ages to see 'The External World' a short film from David OReilly, since he posted the teaser trailer 2 months ago and here it finally is.

Shown at both Sundance and the 67th Venice Film Festival; the film features a some amazing characters and stories that draw you in and bind gradually to create a brilliantly absurd (and probably NentirelySFW) world.

The Worlds First Ever Lego House

This house which took just over 2 months to construct was built from over 3 million Lego bricks by Barnaby Gunning Architects.

It is the world's first full size lego home and it will feature in the final episode of James May's Toy Stories, a new series for BBC2, unfortunately it has been dismantled now (??why).

Crazy, Freaky, Giant 'People'

These gigantic marionettes were produced to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, for a performance by France's Royal de Luxe street theatre company, entitled 'The Berlin Reunion' that lasted several days that took place in Berlin (obviously!) this month.

I want one to freak out all my enemies (and all my friends).

I'm slightly, worried that they might have actually been created by the government or an evil scientist to take over and kill us all, or at least horifically maim us and turn us into their slaves.

But maybe I am just being silly...

Maybe.

Lady Gaga Wears Hello Kitty

I can't believe after all this time away I am doing another bloody Lady gaga post, but she does seem to be involved in the most interesting photoshoots and I couldn't really leave out a post on this recent one to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Hello Kitty shot by photographers Markus Klinko and Indrani.

The set will be part of an exhibition in New York and LA, running from October 23rd to November 15th to celebrate the Hello Kitty brand.

Curated by Jamie Rivadeneira, owner of retailer JapanLA, the exhibition will feature a product retrospective, pop-up store and other special events. Over 80 artists, including Gary Basemen, Tara McPherson, Simone Legno, Ron English, Huck Gee, and Amanda Visell, will be exhibiting their takes on the iconic character.

I know most people will be into the Hello Kitty stuffed toy dress, but personally I am loving the top picture best.

Paper Artist - Phil

'Phil' is a paper artist from Conegliano, Italy. He has loads of stuff on his portfolio but my favourite of all his work is the Air Cube Force 1's. I just think it's a really cool idea and is really visually effective, I can imagine them being good point of sale for Nike. Also check out his myspace for even more work.

Giant Anime Robot Placed In Tokyo Centre

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of anime television series 'Mobile Suit Gundam' created and directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, a life size Gundam has been created and placed in the streets of Tokyo.

Seriously, how amazing is this? This is the sort of thing that happens in my dreams, all I have wanted since I was a kid was a giant robot. I hope there is a control panel in it's head, I wish I lived in Tokyo so I could try and steal it. Apparently there are more models around the city, but this one is the largest (and therefore the coolest)

Original Fake 4-Foot Dissected Companion

The latest Original Fake 4-Foot Dissected Companion has now been officially announced! It was shipped in very limited (15!) supplies to the Tokyo store last Saturday, which means the release for everywhere else isn't far away -rumours are it's early September!

Top Designers On Sesame Street

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street Harpers Bazaar have brought some top designers onto the set. Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Diane Von Furstenberg, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, Oscar de la Renta, Thakoon Panichgul, Toys and Vera Wang were all involved as well as some of the shows best known characters.
