Paris, London, Barcelona and Beijing by Gustav Johansson

I have been desperate to live in Barcelona ever since I went inter-railing when I was 18 and this short video series directed by Gustav Johansson for Education First: Live the Language did nothing but encourage me.

The videos were shot in Paris, London, Barcelona and Beijing and are kind of cheesy at times but they feature some great typography work and manage to present a reasonably accurate portrayal of life in a different city.

If anyone in Barcelona needs a blogger let me know!

What The Average Woman Looks Like In Every Country

According to Faces Of Tomorrow and artist Mike Mike; this is what the average woman in every country looks like...although personally I think that should be what the average woman would look like if she was a total hottie and never ate crisps.

Mike Mike's project combines hundreds of photographs of the faces of women from various places, in an attempt to highlight the faces “average” features, country by country.

Annecy YouTube - Animation Competition

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival and YouTube are launching the second edition of the Annecy YouTube competition.

Participants should submit an animated short film on video of a running time of no longer than five minutes, taking into account the specific theme: “Animation, land of freedom”.

The winner will receive prizes including a Cristal trophy, a diploma and a week at the Annecy Festival (France) from 6th to 11th June 2011 where the film will be screened.

Event partner, Autodesk, leading publisher of design, engineering and entertainment software, will also be offering licences to 3 prizewinning shorts.

Radiandesign is a graphic design studio from France. They merge photo-manipulation, graphic design, logo and web design to create some pretty interesting work.

HELMO - Coloured Smoke Photographs

HELMO is a creative collective made up of Thomas Couderc and Clement Vauchez and these coloured smoke photographs by the French duo are just breathtaking.

They also make me appreciate a bit more of the beauty found in winter and it being fucking freezing every morning when I have to get up for work.

Plastic Bionic - Graphic Design

Plastic Bionic is actually some guy called Julien who lives in Nantes, France. He is a graphic designer and illustrator. It is kinda samey but very skilful nevertheless.

Georges Rousse - Optical Illusion Instalations

Ok so this sort of thing has been done before, but that doesn't make it any less impressive and French photographer and artist Georges Rousse's clean cut graphical style makes these optical-illusion, installation photographs have real impact.

Rousse has just finished filming his documentary 'Bending Space' (trailer below the pictures) which features some pretty awful lounge/lift muzak at the beginning but then, thankfully, moves on to details of his techniques and 200 strong group of artist volunteers which takes your mind off it a bit.

Ndeur Mathieu Creative Sweatshop

French artist and designer Mathieu Missiaen runs the Ndeur Mathieu Creative Sweatshop, based in Toronto, Canada. I have been wanting to blog about him for AGES, since I first heard about his customised shoes. But, what I love most is the stuff he does with paper, creating the most amazing accessories and interior design. He really is just an amazingly creative guy and I urge you to look at more of his stuff here.

Halo LED Spray Can Torch

Paris based designer Aïssa Logerot has developed an new torch that is based around the design of an aerosol can. The torch, called Halo uses an LED light in place of a nozzle and gets its power from the same shaking action that would mix up the paint. The LED bulbs can be changed to allow different colours and brightness. Pretty Pretty.
