Nobuhiro Nakanishi - Artist

I really love this work from Japaneses artist Nobuhiro Nakanishi who describes it in his own words as “the physical that permeates into the art piece.”

Produced in laser print, mounted on plexiglass acrylic, Nakanishi layers his canvases to produce beautifully intriguing installations; where foggy landscapes flow into one another, creating an infinite sense of space.

Lady GaGa, Nicola Formichetti, Stephen Gan & Inez & Vinoodh for V #71 Summer 2011

There has been a lot of controversy over the cover for V#71, which features Lady GaGa in an editorial shot by Inez and Vinoodh with creative direction from Nicola Formichetti.

As this was supposed to be the ASIAN ISSUE, shouldn't they have featured an ASIAN MODEL on the cover? I love the styling, but wouldn't have looked just as good on an Asian celebrity or model?

In his defence V Magazine co-founder and creative director Stephen Gan had this to say:

"Honestly, we searched high and low for Asian celebrities, and we seriously did our homework. But stars who are big in Asia rarely come to America, and getting someone shot over there the way we like things done, started to look tougher and tougher. Gaga and I were emailing the day “Born This Way” came out and I said, “You deserve another cover!” It turned out our Summer issue was coming out ten days before her new album was due to hit. And so I turned to Inez & Vinoodh to come up with an idea that showed her as 3 different characters: herself, a Japanese butterfly, and a Bollywood Shiva goddess. This was their idea, and it just seemed to fit so naturally."

Is he seriously trying to tell us that there are no Asian Stars living in America?

An Anatomical Guide to Monsters - Illustrations

Here are some amazing vintage illustrations by Shogo Endo of the inside of some famous monsters; Gamera, Mothra (larva stage), Godzilla and Anguirus.

They're taken from 'An Anatomical Guide to Monsters' by Shoji Otomo, published back in 1967.

Yukari Terakado - Skull Series

Yukari Terakado is an illustrator, born in Japan and studying at the Joshibi University of Art and Design. She uses mainly pencil lines and acrylics. I have a bit of a thing for skulls (they are maybe my third favourite after sparkly things and paper things) so it figures her skull series would be what I'm into most.

Shikisai - Designers

This is another one of those ideas that is so simple yet so brilliant that I feel like stabbing myself in the face repeatedly because I didn't think of it first and become a millionaire.

I'm not sure if husband and wife designers Noto Fusai have made millions from their innovative T-Shirt series Shikisai yet but I absolutely love it.

Jum Nakao - Paper Dresses

Japanese-Brazilian Jum Nakao works in many mediums including art, costumes, design and animation, but usually fashion is a consistent theme. He recently created these incredibly ornate and delicate dresses for the Paper Fashion exhibition at the MoMu in Antwerp which gained press because the models ripped themselves out of the dresses which must have taken weeks to create at the end of the show.

As much as I am in love with all things paper, I am also loving the beautiful old school style of the photographs combined with the space age Lego haircuts of the models.

Fumie Sasabuchi - Artist

I thought I would continue the horror theme with some work from Japanese Artist Fumie Sasabuchi and his reworked fashion magazine pages. It's not surprising seeing as this is a site full of stuff that I love...that I love them. They are so creepy, but in the most beautiful way, the colours are gorgeous and the hair is immense.
