Toronto Comic Arts Festival - Short Film

'Pencil it in' is a promotional video for the upcoming Toronto Comic Arts Festival. It shows artists in their own studio discussing the materials they use to create comic art.

It is really nicely shot and edited and the love these people have for their craft and the details that go into it is really inspiring.

Jen Mann - Artist

Creating weird human/animal heads is/was like soooooooo on trend/cool/what Topshop are doing. So I have seen lots of work similar to this in concept and I wasn't really sure what to feature until saw this beautiful set from artist and Art Director of Konekt magazine Jen Mann.
Born in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, Jen currently lives and works from home in Mississauga. I wasn't too fond of her overly complex 'artist's statement' but I was so drawn to the eyes of the girl in the third picture down that I knew I really wanted to post her.

Julie Begin - Make Up Artist

Here is some work from Canadian make-up artist and beauty consultant Julie Begin, who counts John Galliano, Balenciaga, and Marc Jacobs amongst her collaborators. She was also heavily involved with the creative process of Cirque du Soleil’s OVO, creating conceptual looks for the 50 insect-inspired characters that comprise the show.

Eric Testroete - 3D Artist

Here is some amazing work from Eric Testroete (pronounced "test roht"). A 3D artist, based in Vancouver, in which he made an exact replica of his head, in large scale, entirely from cardboard.

Photographer - Dina Goldstein

This series from Canadian photographer Dina Goldstein entitled 'Fallen Princesses' aims to subvert the concept of the traditional fairytale story portrayed by Disney by placing some of their most well known princesses into real life situations.

In all of the images the princess is placed in an environment where happily ever after is replaced with a realistic outcome and each piece tries to address a current issue that may affect real women, such as illness, addiction and self-image issues.
