Babelgum Metropolis Art Prize 2009 - This is HUGE!!!!
Babelgum Metropolis has just announced a mammoth competition to find talented and exciting artists from anywhere around the world.
Finalists will have their work shown on giant screens in Times Square, New York City!!! But that's not it, the overall winner will also win $20,000, with two smaller prizes of $5,000 also being awarded for the audience's favourite and the best 'street art' entries.
The competition is open to ALL artists, anywhere in the world, working in any visual medium, but entries will be judged on the basis of a video submitted by the artist.
Winners will be chosen by Isabella Rossellini and Cedar Lewisohn, curator of the 2008 ‘Street Art’ exhibition at the Tate Modern in London.

Voting has know been launched and I thought you might be interested in featuring the next stage of the competition on your website. You can embed videos that have been short listed as well as putting up the Babelgum link.

Over 450 individual entries from five continents are now presented for public viewing and voting on the Babelgum Metropolis Art Prize website and on Babel gum’s mobile video applications.
Babelgum, the independent web and mobile video content platform, launched the Babelgum Metropolis Art Prize to showcase the best new and emerging artists from around the world.
Launched in September 2009 the Babelgum Metropolis Art Prize sought videos, of no more than 5 minutes in length, representing the work of the best and edgiest artists working in any medium, from performance art, painting and photography to sculpture, installation and new media.
Artists are competing for three prizes worth a total of $30,000 and prize winners and runners-up will see their videos screened on New York’s famous Times Square monitors on the 17th December. The “Grand Prize” and the “Best Street Art Video Award” winners will be selected by an illustrious judging panel led by iconic art-house actress and video artist Isabella Rossellini and the online and mobile community will vote on the winner of the “Audience Award”.
Also on the judging panel will be Lee Wells, the Curator-at-Large for the SCOPE Art Fair (and Co-founding Director of the video art archive Perpetual Art Machine), Cedar Levisohn, Curator of the Tate Modern gallery’s groundbreaking Street Art (2008) exhibition and Howard Halle, chief art critic for Time Out New York and former curator of Performance Art at The Kitchen.
