Josh Keyes is an artist based in California. When I first saw his work I was attracted to his surrealist composition style and it reminded me of Damien Hirst's formaldehyde animals; a section of nature completely taken out of its usual context.
The beautifully painted animals seem so strange and isolated in their overcrowded urban environment, as the natural world around them is slowly diminishing. Speaking as someone who really is not interested in anything 'hippy' whatsoever this work provokes in me an important message of our lack of concern over conservation of the natural world.
